spooky action labs makes records with bandmates including plants of various species, cats of specific vintage, and computer-generated algorithms beyond our complete control. there’s a human here too: a musician, writer, and producer named greg camphire.

sometimes other friends drop in, like cellist peter jacobson, who created a one-man string orchestra to sweeten the dusty + disjointed drum n' bass beats of “satanas eleganzas.” it's an ode to future nostalgia, a faded memory glistening through the static of pirate radio, bumping through the blown-out speakers of your first ride. the dancefloor never feels the same after the afterparty.

“false binaries” presents an emergent conversation between entities coming in + out of phase. they forget what’s analog + what’s digital. they remember that the best choice between two things is a third thing. the lines blur, the beats bang, and there’s just one formless mutant left behind.

“hungry ghosts” was recorded in a haunted house built on a gospel swamp. portals were opened, so we slipped inside for a while. there were 100-year-old pianos + antique pump organs + sometimes the door blew shut in perfect time with just the right chord. you never know who’s listening. special shout out to vlad, a dragon tree (dracaena draco), who brought heavyweight bass tones courtesy of plantwave technology.

“idle.while/else.when” is less a piece of music than a description of a dream across two rooms, elegantly furnished + crawling with tendrils. musical purrs in the bass range were provided by tsüki (felis catus) in one of her last acts of love in this lifetime. keep an eye out for the ritual captured on video featuring another friend, multimedia artist ChiloTe, wearing his unparalleled suit of psychoactive flowers.

this four-track EP is for you, a humble contribution, like a small child’s christmas present…wrapped loosely, taped at odd angles, flecked with muddy fingerprints.
